Preparing your motor for the workshop
What to tell the technician, which photos to take and what to arrange before visiting.
Start with a short description
Give the motor brand and model, year if known, and approximate operating hours. Describe when the issue began and when it occurs. Useful facts include whether the engine starts, what the instrument shows and any unusual sounds.
Prepare photographs
- The complete motor and its identification plate.
- Instrument readings or warning text.
- Any area showing damage or signs of a leak.
A video of a fault already observed can help the discussion. Do not deliberately reproduce an unsafe operating condition just to record it.
Recall the service history
When was the last service? Which parts were replaced? What has already been done since the issue appeared? Bring any service records you still have.
Arrange the handover in advance
Confirm arrival time, site access, equipment supplied with the motor and diagnostic terms. Transport the motor in the position specified in its own model's manual.
